In Universal Century 0083, Gundam Prototype No. 1 was developed as part of the Gundam Development Plan which was secretly advanced by the Federation Forces with the aim of succeeding the RX-78 Gundam. A machine that developed the high versatility of the RX-78, it fought repeated fierce battles with the "Prototype No. 2," which was developed at the same time and was stolen by the remnants of the Zeon army.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory
The second Gundam OVA, following "Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket." This story fills in the events between "Mobile Suit Gundam" and "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam." "Stardust Memory" depicts a cast of deep characters in a dramatic story. The is also the first series in which factions of Gundams do battle. Based on the elaborate and detailed setting, the Mobile Suit designs were very popular.
